Washington struck out in its efforts to add a veteran to the starting rotation and their top acquisition was free agent Joey Gallo, a former All-Star who hit .177 with 21 homers for Minnesota last season.

Byron Buxton was 3-for-3 with a triple, homer and four RBI to lift the Twins to a 10-7 win on Saturday over the New York Yankees. Carlos Correa had a pair of RBI singles and non-roster catcher Chris Williams had two hits and two RBI.
The Nationals lost 4-1 to the Miami Marlins and 9-4 to the Houston Astros on Saturday. Riley Adams had two hits and a two-run homer and Luis García Jr. was 3-for-3 against Houston. Joey Meneses had two hits and drove in Washington's lone run against the Marlins with a seventh-inning double.
Right-hander Pablo López takes the ball Sunday for Minnesota. He's allowed four runs in five innings this spring. Right-hander Joan Adon has been touched for five runs, three earned, in three innings over two relief outings and gets the start for the Nats on Sunday.
